Brian Workman was known to many in the martial arts community as a respected scholar and researcher of the Japanese martial traditions.

He wrote extensively privately and had several published articles on Hakkoryu Jujutsu which appeared in major martial arts publications.

Before the internet, and at a time when reliable information on traditional Japanese martial arts such as Hakkoryu Jujutsu was more difficult to come by, Brian’s articles were considered a light in the storm by those who knew him or chanced to come across them:
